With 300 km of trails, you will have the choice for your ballads. On foot or by bike, follow our marked trails and you will be seduced by the seaside, the estuary, the countryside and the city. Rochefort will surprise you with its cultural heritage.

The city of Rochefort inherits a prestigious past, with its urban heritage among the richest and most remarkable of the Charente-Maritime. It was also classified as a city of art and History in 1987.

It is also a spa town par excellence which has one of the deepest sources of France. Rochefort is the most important spa centre in the whole of the centre-west of France. The cultural life is rich with museum, theatre, and many animations.

If you like the ballads, Rochefort has the biketourism label, many cycling trails await you to explore the land, the seaside and the surroundings.

In the seventeenth century, Louis XIV dreamed of reigning as Master on Earth as on the seas... He chose Rochefort and the Charente to build and arm his warships. The maritime arsenal of Rochefort dubbed the "Versailles of The Sea" was a place of technical innovation in naval construction. Between its opening in 1666 and its definitive closure in 1927, nearly 550 warships were built there!
